A Christmas Card

Tis the season... so we decided to follow in the footsteps of our smart sister in law Sarah (whom is our financial advsor as well) to save money and use our blog to let everyone "see" how we are doing out here in Escondido. So enjoy....

Since we did not do a letter last year I will try to update our lives over the past 2 years as quick as I can. We got married almost 1 1/2 ago in Mi then took the trek out through Co and then out to sunny San Diego. We live in Escondido which is about 25 minutes N of Down Town. We are about a 15 minute drive from the beach and is a place we love to go to and relax, try to surf and Jayne loves to take in the sun while reading her inTouch magazines.

Jayne continues to work at Superior Ready Mix, which is a concrete company that is owned by a family of the school I work at. She is involved with HR and Paralegal work, mainly she sues people so watch out :) She has been pursuing her love for
interior design by taking classes online at a local community college. Through this she remembered her "love" for school by taking quizzes, doing homework and writing research papers. yuck. But she is doing well in them and learning more about a career that she can hopefully get into someday. She also has helped decorate a friends living room and helped design the conference room at out school, both look very good as they reflect her eye for design. If anyone needs help you know where to go! Jayne continues to be active by walking 3 times a week in the morning and playing soccer on a team from our church and community. It is an indoor league that is outdoors, yes only in California. She is quite good and it is fun to see her get aggressive and mad sometimes.
She loves the weather here and enjoys the fact the 60 deg
rees is now cold, and can't imagine snow being a part of winter again. In her "spare" time she has been making t shirt quilts so her home ec class skills are coming in handy. She is a wonderful support and rock for me as I am very busy with coaching and teaching. She listens to all of my complaining and deals with all of my planning and prep time. She has been a true coaches wife and has become a fan of all the players and teams I am a part of.

I am in the second year of teaching at Calvin Christian School where I teach 2nd -12th grade PE. It is a blast and I know people give me grief but I love being able to play all day for my Job. It is busy changing from class to class mainly my demeanor from being nice and pleasant voiced "Mr J" with the second graders to an 8th grade boys Pe teacher, you can imagine how I am with them:) I love my job and am blessed to be in a great place where I can teach and be a part of students lives and have an impact on them. I continue to coach football and girls basketball. Coaching is my true passion. Football I am the Varsity D coordinator and JV head coach. We just finished our second year every in football with a 9-2 record and a round 1 playoff win~ we then lost to the #1 seed 76-3 they were good, but it was a great year and a huge difference from last year. The boys are great to be around and see them become football players. I am the varsity girls basketball coach and just started my second year. Last year was a great time as we won the CIF in division 5 and then went on to state and got to the southern conference championship game (semis in the state of Ca) It was so fun and is rewarding to be a part of building a successful program. We are 3-1 thus far and just won our Fastbreak Invitational Tourney that we host. I love the weather here as well and have gotten into surfing. I would love to do it all the time, but being busy with school and all it gets hard to go out. I am still a Broncos fan and love being in first place over the Chargers. I am not a fan of them and think I dislike them even more now that we live is San Diego...My students and I have great conversations and bets about the games :)

Jayne and I are also the HS youth group leaders at our church and enjoy being able to be involved with the lives of the students. We have been blessed to be by brother Kurt who lives in LA and we get to see him often. It is great for Jayne to have family close and a place to go to get away from Escondido. The past year has been full of visitors that we love having at our house. We are also in the process of maybe buying a house! We will keep you all posted on that and would love visitors if you are able.

We have been truly blessed over the last year and thank the Lord that he is in control of all and we are not. He has blessed us with good health, great families, awesome friends new and old, jobs and so much more. We pray that you and your families have a great Christmas and holiday season. We hope that it is a time to relax, reflect, eat good food make memories and laugh and praise the Lord for the birth of His Son.

Happy Holidays from warm California!

Love Jayne and Brad

Our Puppy.....for a day :)

So Jayne and I have been thinking and talking about a puppy and well we had one for a day. A family from our school was looking to get rid of one of their last puppies and their third grade daughter whom I teach in PE was very persistent with her "Mr. J do want a puppy, it was 2000 now its free" so my dutchness took over and we went and saw him. A JAX we called him jax came home with us. We loved him but....Gave him back a day later bc he would just be in his cage all the time. So we gave him back. I guess its good to do now seeing that we could give him back.
Jax was a Bergamasco Sheep Dog see what he would GROW up to be not so cute:) and a breif video of jax stay with us.

Zoo. Rockies. Football.

With School starting up for my second year we have been pretty busy with football, meetings and back to school nights. Last Saturday we had a good day by starting out at the San Diego zoo with our friends Paul and Danae and their boys, Then off to the Rockies Padres game down town with other friends. Unfortunately we lost...the rockies that is.

I am coaching football again at Calvin. This is our second year ever so it is fun and frustrating at times. We are 1-0 had a big win 40 - 0 last night. I am the defensive coordinator, so my first shut out!

Down Time?

Jayne and I have had some down time. Well kind of. Jayne received an old sewing machine from her grandma and through self teaching she sewed a quilt together of our old t-shirts. She did a great job doing it all be herself. She gives her high school class the credit.
Here are some pics.

Michigan Trip

We traveled back to good ol GR last week to see family and friends and attended a college buddy's wedding. Mark and Katie Tigchelaar, who are moving out to the San Diego area, so we are excited to have them come out.

It was a great week of seeing Jayne's Family and getting to see how BIG our nieces are getting. The week was full of fun activities such as paint ball and hanging with old friends for the bachelor party, going to the "other" side of green lake to hang with Jayne's friends at their parents new place (don't worry we did some sun cruising with the Kuipers) attending the wedding and going up to the Walcott's Cottage near Muskegon for a couple of days of relaxing fun.

It is always great to go on vacation....good times

We went to a Josh Gracin concert Saturday night in oceanside. The weather was perfect and the background wasn't bad either. Sunday our Church held its annual beach service. Surfing, Sunning, and Attempting to Skim Board were followed by A BBQ and beach worship service.

A very good California weekend

I'm going to brag a bit.
My Brother in Law Kurt, who lives in LA, is a producer for the reality show Intervention.

It is a powerful show about addictions and many times overcoming them. I recommend it. Anyways it was just nominated for 2 EMMY'S so congrats to Kurt and the show

Weaver + Wedding

My good buddy Adam Weaver came out to visit Jayne and I this past week. It was a great time to visit and catch up and have many laughs. The best part about our friends is that nothing changes even though we don't get to see each other that much.
The week consisted of:
Golf, The beach, Fish Tacos Down Town SD, Gelatto for Jayne, Camp fires in out back porch, and too much fun.

We also went to a wedding Saturday night for our good friends Josh and Carolyn!

Enjoy...

U S and A

Happy 4th to all. Hope you had a great weekend wherever you celebrated. Jayne and I went up the coast to LA to visit brother Kurt who lives in Brentwood. The weekend was full of bar-b-q's, beers and beaches. A great American celebration. We went to Kurt's buddy Zach's house. He is Chuck on the show "Chuck" if you haven't seen it you should.
It's good http://www.nbc.com/Chuck/
Then traveled to more bbq's throughout LA.

Saturday we ate some French toast and bacon by Kurt then went to Marina Del Rey with Kurt's friends and enjoyed a day a the beach. Body surfing, Sun soaking, food and football catch "trust" (a catch game without looking at the ball) It is harder than you think. Dills and I were not that good....1 successful attempt out of too many. A good time by all.

My 1st attempt at a slide show to document the time...

Happy 1 Year!

Jayne and I celebrated our 1st year anniversary today. We celebrated by going out to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse last night down in Del Mar. We felt pretty cool dressing up and feeling like we were in the upper class. The steak was awesome...really it was good. But a bit pricey so we were brought back to our normal lives.

We received in the mail a DVD and picture slide show of our wedding from Aunt Peg. It was a great surprise to get to see the day, that went so fast, again. We laughed at all our friends and family and little cousins dancing. It was crazy to think that it was a year ago.

We are truly blessed to have one another ( well at least I am ) and can't wait to see where the next year takes us.

Surf's up!

So being in California, I figured I should be a surfer. I have always wanted to try it and being a blond hair boy I thought I would fit right in. I have been attempting to surf this year. I go out many Sunday mornings before church with a guy from our church. It is one of the most difficult but rewarding things I have ever done. I thought I was a decent athlete, but I look foolish and it has put me in my place many times. But being on the water (once I get past the break) when the sun is coming up is one of the coolest places to be. Being surrounded by dolphins, seals and pelicans surfing along side of you is a true sign of God's Glory. Jayne has not attempted it yet, she is not too sure about not knowing what's going on underneath her in that ocean, But I will get her out there sometime.

My first night surfing action
that's me........in a few years

Summer Action

Jayne and I have been enjoying our sumer nights in California. Just like in Denver it cools off really nice so night time activities are very possible. Jayne joined a womens indoor/outdoor soccer league with ladies from our church and school when we moved out here. They are back to back champs (no big deal). Jayne played in high school and loves getting back into the games. Summer games are better than winter, yes we have a winter here, it gets cold. Here are some pics of Jayne in action.

the field they play on

Jayne in action. Check out the one where she is taking a girl out! Wes would be proud

I coached girls varsity basketball this year and had a bla
st. We did really well and went to the final four in California. This summer we have a sumer league team and are playing up to say the least. We are division 5 (smallest) playing a D 1 league. Yikes! we are learning a lot about real basketball but it is still fun to be on the court even though we get blown out by 50 sometimes....yea 50

We are Posers ...but it's cool

So.....here we go.
I was talking to my mom and you know her, we should start a Blog too. I love looking at Cara's and Abby's keeping up with all they do, so I thought I would become a poser (as mark would call me) I know we don't have any cute kids, but I thought we could keep you up to date with all our happenings here in California. So I will attempt to blog or whatever you call it.
Quick up to date. Jayne and I moved to Escondido about a year ago. I teach and coach at Calvin Christian schools (k-12 PE) I know its a hard job playing all day in the San Diego sun. Jayne is working as a HR and Paralegal person? at Superior Ready Mix (a concrete company).
We really enjoy going to the beach and attempting to surf. Jayne loves the sun and enjoys taking in its rays.

K thats all I got now...but hope we can do cool things so you can see what and how we live here in California!
